Village board meetings are the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month beginning at 7:30.  All regular board meetings are broadcast on Channel 10.

Deerfield Farmers’ Market Opens June 20! Hours are from 7 a.m. to noon. Get fresh vegetables, plants, cut flowers, bread, coffee, and more, and visit with your friends and neighbors.

Mosquito season is here—even with the cold weather, we have lots of standing water, and those little biters are out!

      Prevention: get rid of standing water, pick up anything that can hold a little water (plastic bags, paper plates, etc.) keep birdbaths and gutters clean.

      If you’re out where there are likely to be mosquitoes, use repellent.

      Stagnant water is where mosquito larvae live and grow. To report water standing for more than 3 days, e-mail southlake@clarkemosquito.com or call the mosquito hot line, 800-942-2555; include the address of the standing water. A technician will check the water and treat it if mosquito wigglers are found.

Fireworks will be at Brickyards Park again, and there will be food available for sale beginning at 5 p.m. Fireworks will start around 9:15 p.m.

July 4 starts with the 42nd annual Rotary 10k run/5K walk, beginning at Walden School. Race start is 8:00 a.m. sharp. Call or e-mail me if you need a registration form.

• The Seniors are hosting the annual pancake breakfast at Jewett Park, 8-10 a.m.

• Dog show, 9 a.m.

• The parade starts about noon at Deerspring Park and ends at Jewett Park.

• Jewett Park will have food vendors and a variety of games and arts and crafts booths, plus voter registration.
